Discipline; It’s A Choice, Not A Feeling

Discipline. Our favorite little word!

But on a serious note, discipline is what stands between us accomplishing our goals or not. Whatever goal we set for ourselves, the reality is, there will typically be some level of opposition or challenge that will try to keep us from accomplishing that goal. So the question then becomes, will you make the choice to do what you said you will do, or will you follow your feelings when it is leading you in the opposite direction. This is why discipline is needed. Discipline is about practicing self control, training yourself to do what you say you will do, despite how you may feel or what temptations or obstacles present themselves. And why practice discipline? Because you are worth it! Worthy of your goals and dreams coming to pass!

This summer, my goal was to exercise 2-3 times a week consistently. I have to say I did pretty good overall with one or two hiccups! In times past, this was always a challenge for me, until I learned how to discipline myself in this regard. I had a strong why, which is health. I had the tools I needed to accomplish this; a gym, the park, Youtube workout videos, and workout equipment in my home. I had a realistic goal for myself as far as my work out regimen. Again I realized discipline involved making a choice. So when I wanted to just relax or scroll on social media, I made a choice to workout instead of following my feelings. Usually once I started working out, my feelings would follow and I would enjoy it.

So whatever your goal is, be it exercise, cooking, budgeting, or anything else, being disciplined by practicing self control, using the power of choice over feelings, holding on to your why and having practical steps will help you accomplish your goals.

VERSE OF THE DAY
